•Monica is an eighteen-year-old girl with five siblings. She lives with her mother and five other siblings in a single-room iron sheet house in the slum of Kawangware.

•Monica’s father separated from her mother, leaving her the breadwinner for the family. Monica’s mother doesn’t have a stable source of income and depends on odd jobs to provide for the family.  Since she is asthmatic, her health can sometimes make it hard for her to work, which only adds to her challenges of providing for her family.

•Monica would like to become a nurse when she grows up, but her dream is in jeopardy because her family cannot afford her school fees. In her free time, she enjoys singing, especially in the church choir.
